The Company was formed in 1989 by Alwyn Glover, working as a sole trader from the back of an Austin Maxi car, with his wife Tracy taking on the book-keeping role working during the evening and weekends.
Initially working from home, as the workforce increased space in the kitchen became tight and so the first Company premises were obtained at Fourth Avenue, York. These were quickly outgrown and the business went through subsequent moves to Fulford industrial estate and then Layerthorpe where we are still located today.
Along the way, the Company acquired Theakston Plumbers, formed its own drainage section, set up a specialised Legionella Risk Assessment division and a flourishing Gas Service section. The expansion has been driven by some key personnel: Mick Barker, who joined following the Theakston buy-out, Andy Holmes, who joined from Ryedale Plumbers’ estimating department, and Lynn who now runs the office team.
As a company we have always invested in staff training, we are constantly training our own apprentices, including Jason Hartley who has gone from Apprentice Plumber to a Director of the Company. The strength of the Company is in our workforce, we employ over thirty people, a highly skilled, highly motivated group who always strive to give the best service possible to our customers.
In 2016 control of the Company was passed over from Alwyn to Lynn, Andy and Jason, all family members, and so retaining our profile as a traditional, family run company.
Going forward, we are determined that the Company will maintain the unbeatable service it has always offered and we are also committed to carry on investing in our most precious asset, the people who work for us, and also to always remember the most important element of our business which is, without doubt, our customers, both companies and regular clients, who return to us on a regular basis and know we are a company they can rely on.
